Real Food Is Always Best

May 22, 2023

For decades, dog owners have been feeding their pets kibble – dry, processed, pellet-like “food”. And while each year there’s more and more of these foods marketed as premium and natural, dog’s haven’t exactly been getting healthier. Actually, quite the opposite: higher rates of dog cancer, obesity, allergies, lethargy and more.

It all starts with their food. Healthy food is key for a longer, better life. It’s true for us and it’s especially true for our dogs.

Heard about fresh dog food, but don’t know exactly what it is – or how it can help your dog? You’ve come to the right spot. After years of research, working with top vets and animal nutritionists, and of course – our own trial and error, we’ve put together an easy guide to understanding fresh dog food, and some of the amazing benefits you’ll see with your fur babies!

Nutrients. And lots of them

Fresh, gently cooked food is packed with nutrients that kibble simply cannot provide. Kibble is highly processed, and most of the nutrients are destroyed during the manufacturing process. That’s because achieving low-cost, shelf-stable kibble takes extremely high temperatures and yes, chemical preservatives.

Compare that to fresh food, that’s made with… real food. Yes, it’s that simple. Real, whole foods that are nutrient-dense and GMO-free. Plus, our gentle cooking cycle means that those nutrients stay in the food, and don’t get burned off like with kibbles. Just look at a pack of fresh food and you can see the difference: chunks of meat and fresh vegetables and fruits, organic brown rice, whole blueberries and more. Kibble? Not so much.

Better Digestibility

Dogs’ digestive systems were never meant to break down highly processed kibble. (Then again, who’s is?)

The high temperatures used for kibbles actually destroys enzymes that help dogs digest their foods. The cause for your dog’s bloating, gas and diarrhea? You guessed it.

Fresh food, on the other hand, is so much easier for dogs to digest. Because of low cooking temperatures and slow cook times, the nutrients and enzymes stay in-tact. Plus, there’s no chemical preservatives, rendered fats or artificial, well – anything, which means your dog will be able to absorb significantly more of the nutrients in their food. They’ll feel less lethargic, and as an added bonus: fewer doggy farts!

Improved Skin & Coat

Our fresh meals are high in essential fatty acids, like Omega-3 and 6, plus natural antioxidants and vitamins, that all help your dog have healthier skin and a shinier coat.

It’s actually one of the first things dog parents notice when they make the switch to fresh.

Kibble on the other hand, is mostly made with cheaper, lower quality proteins and ‘fillers’ like starch and corn meal. Dry, flaky skin and a dull coat? Here’s your culprit…

Reduced Risk of Chronic Diseases

Studies have shown that a fresh, gently cooked diet can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases in dogs, such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. This is because fresh food provides a wide range of nutrients that support the immune system and help prevent the onset of chronic diseases. In contrast, kibble often contains high levels of carbohydrates, which can lead to obesity and increase the risk of chronic diseases in dogs.

Fresher Breath, Cleaner Teeth, Brighter Smile

Chewing on fresh, whole foods can help keep your dog’s teeth clean and healthy. This is because the act of chewing stimulates saliva production, which helps wash away bacteria and food particles that can lead to dental problems. In contrast, kibble is often made with low-quality ingredients that can stick to your dog’s teeth and lead to plaque buildup and dental problems.
